Alterations

Anyone can sew a straight, but only a few are called tailors and even fewer master tailors. Meet Maria, she is the consummate master tailor with over 39 years of experience in dress design, bridals and tailoring. Maria was born into a family of tailors, who taught the skill in a professional academy. A true tailor can see a photo or sketch and create her own pattern. Through several fittings a gown is created to perfectly fit and complement the personality and figure of the client. In France this process is called couture, where thousands of dollars were spent to create that special gown for that special woman.

Maria has a 5 star rating on Yelp and her customers come from all over for that special attention and artistic talent. As Maria always says “all my brides are beautiful.”
The alteration process takes from several weeks to several months depending on difficulty and your time line. Usually 2 months before the wedding for the first fitting is enough time. About the price, Maria says “I am fair.” No one has ever complained that she over charges.

For your first fitting, have the shoes you plan on wearing on your special day. They set the hem and length of the dress. You don’t really need extra foundations, since most quality dresses have adequate foundations built in, but if you want to wear your own bra under the gown be sure to bring it with you. Many times Maria can sew in cups so bras are not necessary, especially if you need a little extra.

Several fittings later you will see the dress mold to your body. Maria pays special attention to the upper torso and bust area, since many gowns are made with cups too large. She will take the torso apart and reshape the cups to fit exactly right. And then bead by bead she will sew it back to perfection. It is a pleasure to see this step as her needle sews through the fabric in every detail.

Bustles must be added to take the train up after the ceremony. The bustle pattern can either be outside or under (French style). The type of bustle is determined by the dress. Outside bustles consists of loops and buttons which show off the details of the train when lifted up. French bustles consist of several sets of ribbons under the skirt and train that folds the bustled train under the skirt. Maria often creates her own bustle pattern to make your gown even more elegant. Just trust her and you’ll love it.

The final phase is pressing where she personally presses your gown to perfection and goes over every inch of your dress to fix and finish any imperfections the manufacturer forgot. The gown hangs from a high spot sparkling with beauty. It is perfect just as you always dreamed.

In the final fit you stand before the mirror. Another beautiful bride.
Now you have that perfect dress, perfect fit for your perfect wedding day.
